“Every year, checks issued as refunds, restitution payments, or judgment payments fail to get cashed by the payee,” said Clerk Reed. “People and organizations lose track of money that is rightfully theirs.”

In an effort to return the unclaimed funds to the rightful owners, Reed has sent letters informing payees on January 8th of the unclaimed funds. “I encourage people to check the unclaimed funds list for their name so we can make sure they get their money,” said Reed. The deadline to submit a “reissue check” request is Friday, March 24th, 2023. On April 1, 2023, all unclaimed funds must be turned over to the city.

The unclaimed funds listing can be viewed on Clerk Reed’s website by clicking HERE or at the court located at 576 West Park Avenue in Barberton. The Barberton Municipal Court serves the communities of Green, Barberton, New Franklin, Norton, Clinton, Coventry and Copley.
